BGS 100 & DIAL Awards
At BGS we have clear curriculum intent that we believe will enable our students to go on and lead happy and successful lives. The intent statements themselves are not always at the forefront of our students' minds and so we have developed a programme that helps them build a portfolio of achievements that show the character required to be a proud ambassador for the school. This programme is called 'BGS 100' and includes a variety of accomplishments that all students could attain during their time in Years 7-11.
As students fulfil these achievements, they share the evidence with their form tutor who 'signs it off'. Some achievements can be obtained every year whilst others are one-off. Tutor time events will keep a spotlight on the programme.
Students can receive recognition for milestones along the way, such as Headteacher letters and badges, but when they reach the final BGS 100 goal they receive a choice of rewards, including a BGS 100 special edition school tie, vouchers, etc.
You can find the current list of achievements recognised in the programme below, but we welcome comments from parents and students on other achievements that help reflect our beliefs about what makes a great BGS student.
DIAL Awards
DIAL Awards are subject achievements awarded to students in years 7-9 for engaging in wider curriculum activities within a subject.

D for Delve - this is related to wider reading and research

I for Inspire - this is related to wow moments

A is for Active - this is related to being a… e.g. scientist

L is for Lead - this is related to leading learning
Rationale
DIAL awards aim to extend wider participation in a subject and recognise effort and talent. The awards help:

Place the curriculum learning in a wider context

Inculcate a love of learning generally

Deepen interest in subject discipline

Show all learning is valued, not just knowledge that helps pass a test

Helps students understand and enjoying being a e.g. scientist, historian, mathematician
Basic Information

Students can achieve the award annually during KS3, in as many subjects as they like, for engaging in 'extra' activity within that subject.

Awards get restarted each year.

Each award should be achievable only with extra effort not just routine expectation.

Students should be able to achieve the reward without parental support but achievements that include families e.g. visit Lincoln Castle, will be included.

Students do not have to achieve all the activities to achieve the award. Each subject will specify the number of achievements needed.
