Wider Curriculum

Our Sixth Form students access a bespoke WELL Time curriculum during morning sessions with their tutors. For 25 minutes every morning, from Monday to Thursday, they complete tasks and seminars on a wide range of elements (see below), while weekly assemblies each Friday consolidate key concepts. WELL stands for Wellbeing, Enrichment, Lifeskills and Learning, which serves as a useful summary of the curriculum.

The PSHE, RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) and Citizenship elements seek to provide a stimulating curriculum that is accessible to all, closely shaped to the context of our school. The curriculum is structured to enhance our students' personal growth, emotional wellbeing and appreciation of our British Values, as well as promoting Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development. Our RSE lessons aim to show students what positive and healthy relationships look like, including sexual relationships. Statutory Religious Education is also delivered through the WELL Time programme.

We have made every effort to keep the PSHE curriculum relevant for our students, including via Student Voice opportunities. One example of this is the expansion of our Finance element, based on the desire of many students to increase their knowledge in this area. We have also developed our Current Affairs element following student feedback, by introducing the popular "Media Monday" feature.

Our wider curriculum teaches students the skills they will need to navigate the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. It develops their knowledge and understanding of health and wellbeing, relationships, and living in the wider world. It equips students to become confident and resilient learners who take a positive, active role in a diverse society. It provides them with the skills needed to stay safe within their community; as well as a safe environment within the school, where they are able to discuss a range of topics freely.
