History of the Library
The Library used to be the main school. The school was granted its Charter in 1555 by Phillip the Second of Spain and Mary the First of England. The school was built in 1567, as can be seen on the keystone which gives the date through the far wooden door that holds many historical features. Four main stained glass windows show figures of men whose names live on in the names given to the houses in the school: Robert de Muston, William Gannock, John Laughton and Thomas Parry. There are two Honour boards above the front library door: Parry Gold Medal - this is awarded to the best scholar every year; Jim Howes Memorial Trophy - this is awarded to the student who gives above and beyond commitment to the school.
Opening Hours
Library Opening Hours are from Monday to Thursday 8.30am-4.00pm and Friday 8.30am-3.30pm.
Sixth Formers can use the library any time during the day when they have study periods, unless a class has been booked in. Students can use the library during break and lunch times.
What can I do in the Library?

- Find sanctuary in the busy day where students support each other's social and emotional well-being
How do I borrow books?
Every student has been entered onto the library automated system.
When you have chosen your book or books, take them to the librarian for them to register them onto the system. You may take four books out at a time unless you are studying for GCSEs or A-levels where you may take more for your studies.
Careers Library
The Careers Library is in the small room outside the main Library.
This caters for all students. We have university prospectuses, college information as well as information on Higher Education and occupations.
Changing Themes
At least each term, but often more regularly, we run subject wider reading sections. This is where we overtly display and encourage students to get involved in reading books linked to a subject's curriculum.
Year 7-8 Reading Challenge
Take a book out of the library, read it, and review it. For each book you read you will receive a stamp on your card.
A full card equals a reward and a point for your form.

Library Monitors
The librarian is supported by a team of library monitors.

Chess Tournaments
Inter-house chess tournaments take place in the library once a year, with friendly matches happening daily. Occasionally, the school takes part in chess tournaments against other local secondary schools.
